“It wasn’t nearly as bad as I had expected!”
This is the response I get regularly after a colonic irrigation session. Many people come for colonic hydrotherapy fearing further discomfort and embarrassment. Some are coming because they are already embarrassed or feeling so constipated and uncomfortable they need to do something to relieve their symptoms urgently.
“Oh, I feel so much lighter” is another response I often get, as they pat their stomach and look surprised. The congestion and tightness they had been experiencing day in and day out has gone.
The benefits of this treatment are many:
- Restoring regular bowel motion
- Reducing bloating and gas
- Improving energy levels
- Restoring a healthier gut flora
- Understanding the role of nutrition
- Boosting natural detoxification
I have to confess though, for someone having a colonic irrigation for the first time, especially if they are chronically constipated, it can be a more uncomfortable experience than normal. However, all efforts are made to anticipate this and using diaphramatic breathing, abdominal massage and gentle irrigation the discomfort is kept to a minimum.
The initial nutritional consultation and treatment appointment includes:
discussing your symptoms and life experiences that would have impacted the digestive system, providing information and guidance on steps to take nutritionally and regarding lifestyle that will improve your digestive health, an explanation of the benefits of colonic hydrotherapy, how the procedure takes place, what to expect during and after the treatment and a plan of action for the next few weeks to maximise the benefits.
Since 2004, I have been one of the nurses at Synergy Holistic providing colonic hydrotherapy and supporting clients through their health journey with naturopathic and nutritional advice.
